Hwacheon Sancheoneo (Mountain Trout) Ice Festival

Venue: Hwacheon county, Gangwon-do

In January, the festival takes place at Hwacheon, Gangwon-do which is the first area that freezes over in Korea during winter. During this festival, it provides an unique experience for visitors to catch trout with bare hands in a pool, experience ice fishing, night fishing and there are other activities available for all ages including sledge rides, bob sleighs, ice soccer and many more. Visitors can also have an experience to taste the mountain trot caught by themselves in grill or raw style.

Taebaeksan Mountain Snow Festival

Venue: Taebaeksan Provincial Park

Usually in the middle of January, the Taebaeksan Mountain Snow Festival showcases snow and ice sculpture exhibition for visitors to take photos and enjoy other winter activities such as snow tunnel, slide and snow sledding. This is a good place for a family day out to create unforgettable memories and have fun.

Ganjeolgot Sunrise Festival

Venue: Ganjeolgot Cape Park (Daesong-ri, Seosaeng-myeon, Ulju-gun, Ulsan)

Ganjeolgot is the place where can witness the first sunrise in Korea which attracting people from all across Korea to celebrate and watch the first sunrise of the New Year. The festival starts at sunset on the 31st of December each year with cultural events, concert, fireworks, eating tteokguk (sliced rice cake soup a traditional Korean New Years dish) and several of performances last during the night. People can enjoy the last day of the old year and celebrate the new year by watching the magical first sunrise with friends and other visitors.
