Gwangyang International Maehwa Festival

Venue: Seomjin Village, Gwangyang-si, Jeollanam-do

Gwangyang International Maehwa (Plum Blossom) Festival has been a popular spring flower festival destination since 1997. The festival held when the plum blossoms are blooming, as the flowers only lasted for 1 to 2 weeks, the festival usually begins between the middle and the end of March and it takes place in Seomjin Village, the home of the largest number of plum blossom trees in Korea.

Under the amazing landscape with full of plum blossoms, you can take gorgeous photos at any corner in Seomjin Village, you can also taste and purchase some local organic plum products during the festival.

Hwagae Cherry Blossoms Festival

Venue: Hwagae Market area, Hadong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do

Since 1993, the cherry blossom festival is held at Hwagae Market, a traditional open air market situated between Hadong in Gyeongsangnam-do and Gurye in Jeollanam-do. As the precious cherry blossom only last for a few days, the festival usually start at the beginning of April when numerous of white cherry blossom trees transform the landscape into stunning white wonderland and the road carpeted in snow.

This festival has created a beautiful romantic legend, it is believed that if a couple holding hands and walks down to the “4km Cherry Blossom Road” also known as “wedding road” they will get married and stay happily together forever. The festival also provide seasonal programmes and cultural events where visitors can enjoy such as visiting the historic Hwagae Market and there are restaurants providing traditional cuisines such as Euneo-hoe (sliced raw sweetfish) and Chamge-tang (king crab broth).

Uljin Snow Crab Festival

Venue: Uljin Hupohang Port, Hanmaeum Plaza, Uljin-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do

Usually during the end of March, this festival is a celebration of Uljin’s local specialties, the snow crab and red snow crab. During the festival, sales and samples of snow crabs are available where visitors can try and purchase the fresh local crabs. There are also some hands-on programs such as making of a huge bibimbap (stirred rice) with snow crab meat, snow crab catching experience, auctions and more for visitors to experience.
